Mental Health Support at Work
Liam Healy & Associates are a North East
based firm of HCPC
Registered Occupational Psychologists who help
individuals and organisations manage mental health
issues at work.
Mental illness is not just restricted to anxiety and mood
disorders such as depression, but can include bipolar
disorder, OCD, Borderline Personality Disorder
(BPD), eating disorders, psychosis and
schizophrenia, dementia and PTSD.
When an employee is struggling with mental health it can be a frightening, complex and difficult situation to
manage - for both the person and the
organisation.
Even with the best of intentions
an organisation can fail to effectively support a
person with mental health issues. By the time
they realise it is time to act, it may be too late,
resulting in significant human and financial cost.
A key piece of legislation which governs how we deal
with mental health issues at work is the Equality Act
(2010). The Act is clear about employer responsibilities
- breaching the provisions of the Act is a criminal
offence.
Ignorance of the Act is no excuse in law. Did you know, for
instance, the Equality Act also applies to carers of
people with mental health issues? Many employers are
shocked to discover this.

We help private individuals
(read here about private fitness to work assessments), organisations and their employees manage
mental health issues with practical, hands-on support
with the aim of producing the best outcome for all concerned.
Our clients range from large multinationals to small
family run businesses. All have one thing in common
- a sincere desire to help staff struggling with
their mental health.
Our service is independent, confidential and professionally regulated by the Health
Care & Professions Council (HCPC). We operate within a legal and regulatory
framework which ensures our professional
independence, and that we work ethically, safely and
effectively at all times.
